Umeå Arts Campus hosts the three creative schools of Arts, Design and Architecture. However sadly these schools have very little collaboration over the disciplines. Understanding that the lack of interdisciplinary workshops and other activities was not just a problem of our campus but a global problem in other static institutional environments too got me thinking.
Student lounge is a bottom up solution to strengthen the interdisciplinary connections of the university by offering the students a space of their own. A space built in an unused old building, flexible floorplan with kitchen for lunch hangouts and pubs, open hangout space for lectures and movie screenings and a cozy reading corner offers an optimal space for the students to collaborate over the different disciplines
